Thanks, Grayson. I love this: "One of the United States’ real governance problems is its size, how diverse its locations and situations are; that is also a boon, because, even after 250 years, it remains so undefined and heterodox."

As someone who has driven across the country & back several times, I also retain a love for my country. It's a bit strange to say those words in these times, but there is a lot to love and hope for in its many people and places. Through music we found community in Laramie, WY, in Manhattan Kansas, in Birmingham, AL...the list could continue for a long while.

We've been living in Greece for four years, but not to "escape" the USA (we left during Biden's administration and in fact are returning to Seattle next year). It has enabled me to see my country more clearly (for better and for worse). Thanks again for your reflections, I look forward to reading your article.
